29/10/2016 Weekend Round Up

1 Nov 2016 by DGL Boot Room

Probably best DGL2 performance? The players and management will need to answer that question but from where I observed the game, it couldn’t have been far of it against the current Reserve league Champions and current league leaders. No doubt, a top team.
The boys went out with clear instructions, press them early with high intensity from the the off. The response was immediate from the opposition, they have experience and were able to deal with it. The first clear chance fell to IG with their midfielder picking up a loose ball just inside our area. He steady himself, took his shot, low and hard to right but our keeper was equal to it as he bounced and stretched to pull off a save of mammoth proportions. That was the catalyst, fair to say it was all us after that as we took a control that would last for the entire 90.
Our first goal was all about the pass, Ambrosio Martinez, remember his name from last week? He picked up the ball on the congested right hand side of the pitch and did what everyone least expected, turned, cross field diagonal 80 yard pass that took out practically every player on the pitch into the path of a very aware Shane Thomas, who still had a mountain of work to do before finally finishing in some style from the left hand side from an Adri assist. A remarkable goal it must be said.
Our second, almost identical came from another familiar name from last week Fran Nebot. Again, the ball in from the right this time and he slotted in for an easy goal. Can’t give you detail (didn’t have glasses on at the time) but know the build up was all about the keepers’ awareness in getting the move started.
The third, the most satisfying. Once again it was Shane Thomas with an excellent finish after some text book DGL training ground move.
0-3 at halftime achieved with a high level of confidence. Not many teams can go in at the half way stage in this position and when you do and hear the opposition manager ripping into his team, you know you’ve done a job.
Second half, the question here is can the lads protect the lead against a very good IG side? Well the answer was yes. The reason, experience. Hafide Ibnahaten alongside the elegant playing Adri Moya, who assisted the 1st goal, had total control of the middle. Two peas in a pod very impressive. Neko Dolce, who didn’t manage to get on the score sheet showed a more admirable side to his game with relentless running off the ball and not at all greedy when he had it. That’s a TEAM player for you, makes a bloody huge difference, impressed mate. Little Aitor Lizaso impressed once again at left back. This boy doesn’t stop, no matter how big and horrible you are. Can’t mention them all, that’s for another day but suffice to say, It was a pleasure to be there.
On Sunday we had a team enter the Peña RCD London 5 a side tournament. The boys finished in the plate position (3rd) and tournament won by great named team Maccabbi Levantar, lol we need that fela’s creativity here. Well done to them.
We did however manage to end up with top goalscorer in Shane Thomas (getting bored of this guy now, pops up everywhere, do this do that. Bet he doesn’t put his washing away) and Chema Rios Conceiro (who was playing for another team but firmly DGL boy) got voted Player of the Tournament. Both in the picture, both new players and both very committed. Even one of respected senior players commenting “why am I not surprised”. Well, I know what he means.
Only other thing to report on is our DGL Fantasy League. Not much happened there except for Tes Tone who has the team picked by a girl continues at the top and everyone who had Aguero as captain actually think that was a real live decision. Mugs.
Louis Arranz who I can’t find on Facebook should pull out as he has no clue. His subs scored more than his outfield. Nuff said.
