Weekend Round Up 5/11/2016

11 Nov 2016 by DGL Boot Room

Bit of a difference this week.

As we start to be more consistent with the delivery of our reports it has become necessary to change the format.

Several reasons but the main one and in particular with DGL1 reports, we are attempting to get them into local papers (so if anyone can help with that please shout). Of course, you can imagine trying to get a paper to print a report that contains our sort of banter with a few “wha goan” “yiaaaaaght” “butterz” etc thrown in wouldn’t go down too well!!!

To that end we have a new addition to the team. We are very happy to introduce Monica Villar to the back room team. I’m sure quite a number of our followers know Monica but to put everyone in the picture she is quite a unique individual. This young lady knows about football, writes about & understands football and best of all drinks pints, holding the glass like a proper geezer. No pinky up in mid air.
Monica’s role is as Press Officer and will take over DGL1 reports (straight to the point ones), prepare what will become a monthly newsletter, player interviews both filmed and written. So expect content to grow exponentially as she gets more involved.
Welcome to the Club Monica!!
DGL1 (4-1) Kensington Dragons FC
Deportivo Galicia London continued their great run so far in the league with another brilliant performance that saw them comfortably beat Kensington Dragons 4-1 on Saturday.
Goals from Julian Lorenzo, Michel Chinito Payne and Antón Fernández Casal were enough to kill the game in the first half, however when Dragons pulled one back DGL were quick to react and Antón scored a brilliant second half goal – his second of the match – to take away any suspense from the final minutes of the game.
MOM was awarded to midfielder Tes Tone, in a game where nobody’s performance could be faulted, he managed to stand out.
This result leaves DGL in 4th place, but with just 11 points separating them from table toppers FC Assyria – and five games in hand – do we dare to dream? Seeing Saturday’s performance you couldn’t blame anyone for doing so, but for now DGL will be taking it one game at a time.

Pitshanger Res (2-1) DGL2

A very tightly fought game which saw DGL2 go down in their first league defeat. After going 2-0 down to a strong Pitshanger side we managed to pull one back through Sergio Garcia.
With a sending off early in the 2nd half the fight back was always going to be difficult, but it could have been worse had it not been for a great penalty save from Alejandro Baeza. The young keeper continues to improve under the expert tutelage of Manuel Pazo Garrido , works him hard and gets results. Well done for that.
So, lets just call this a blip for DGL2 in their quest for league glory.

DGLVets (3-3) Interwood Vets

DGLVets win on penalties after extra time.
If ever there was a cliche that was apt then this was certainly a game of 2 halfs, or was it 4 ???
We went in a t HT 2-0 with the opposition scoring both goals against the run of play. Fair to say they felt comfortable.

The second half turned into a great comeback as we came back to 2-2 with goals from Andon and Decabo. With the opposition well and truly rattled we managed a 3rd, again through Andon to go 3-2 up.

The reply from Interwood was immediate and sent the game into extra time for the second time in this competition. Tired legs, big hearts and determination got us through to penalties. But before the penalties, the performances from Ramiro our keeper (phenominal saves that kept us in it at the death) and Hung at left back had the energy of a proper yut were instrumental in our gritty perrformance.

Only one penalty miss from Decabo (mug), more of a back pass like as if the opposition keeper was his best mate than anything else. But main thing is the team performance from players that trust me, gave it their all. Well done the Vets.

That means that all our teams are now in the quarter finals of their respective league cups.
Wicked time for the club, well done all players and coaching staff.

Also if you haven’t already done so have a read of the write up we got from Vice Sports Spain. Good honest piece. Lovely to hear the player experiences. More to come.
