Weekend Round up 14/1/2017

DGL (2 – 1) CB Hounslow Res FC

By Monica Villar

Deportivo Galicia continued their winning streak this weekend as they beat CB Hounslow 2-1 thanks to goals from Antón Fernández Casal and Stephan Kitenge.

DGL got off to a great start, however they failed to capitalise any of their many chances and although Hounslow put up a good fight our boys were the better side.

We didn’t have to wait much for DGL’s opener, Antón ‘bulletman’ Fernández , who after sitting three Housnlow players, put the ball past the opposition goalkeeper to make it 1-0 for the home team.

Not long after Stephan made it 2-0, a great ball that went straight into the top right-hand corner. The last 10 minutes of the first half were action packed and included Julian sending the ball just over the crossbar, while Hounslow nearly pulled one back when one of their players beat our shot-stopper Manu Turko but luckily Chema Rios Conceiro avoided the goal by sending it for a corner kick.

It was a messy start to the second half, once again DGL were enjoying the most chances but failed to score any, Antón hit the side netting while Neko Dolce – who had the clearest chance of the game – sent the ball over the top bar.

With less than 20 minutes for the final whistle, Housnlow managed to score their first and only goal of the game.

During the dying minutes of the game Gill had a shot saved, Michel Chinito Payne sent the ball wide and Stephan produced a lovely cross to Shane Thomas who failed to convert into a goal.

MOM was given to Stephan, who had a brilliant game as well as scoring DGL’s second goal.
DGL coach Leo Decabo was happy with the three points however he has pointed out that he was “not to happy with how the team went about getting them” and admitted that his men “had to work very hard towards the end of the game”. Speaking about all the missed chances throughout the match he said “when you have as many chances as we had you expect to score alot more. It should have been a much more convincing win but the boys done good" he finished.

This victory puts DGL just four points behind leaders FC Assyria, having played three games less.

DGL2 (4 – 3) LPOSSA Res FC

DGL2, with a very strong squad got off to a flying start with an impressive 4 goal first half contribution from Emilio Mendes who can’t stop scoring goals. This kind of form, from the flank, is starting to turn a few heads so firmly knocking on that DGL1 door. Well done lad.

Good performances from Xavi Perez, Adam Vigo, Pablo Souto’o back from injury managed to stave off the LPOSSA comeback to the point that they could have stolen the defeat late on.
DGL2 coach Abb Hamaida was happy with the result and pleased with the quality of the football commenting “these young boys are developing well”

So, with the DGLVets being awarded their game we have the very first 9 point weekend. Can’t complain, the club is getting stronger and stronger. Well done all!! 👊
