Weekend Round Up 28/1/2017

DGL1 (3-0) Tooting & Mitcham Wdrs FC

By Monica Villar

Deportivo Galicia London showed exactly why they are title contenders this season as goals from Antón Fernández Casal , Tes Tone and Stephan Kitenge saw our boys comfortably beat Tooting & Mitcham Wonderers 3-0.

DGL had a great start to the game, our boys were on the ball from the start. Felipe was the first one to warn us what they had in store, Manu Turko had little to do, however the few chances that the opposing team did have either went over or were saved by our shot-stopper.
Depor’s first goal came within the first 30 minutes of the game, Antón received the ball – following a great cross by Felipe – although the shot was initially saved by Mitcham’s keeper, it slipped his hands, Antón managed to get to it and the second time he didn’t forgive. Our bullet-man has now taken his tally up to 21 league goals.

Mitcham were trying to fight back, their best chance saw the ball narrowly miss the top right-hand corner.

Just before the end of the first half one of the Mitcham players committed a foul on MK inside the box, a penalty was given and our Captain Tes didn’t hesitate, a clinical finish which doubled the lead.

The second half started in the same manner as the first half ended, DGL with clear possession and marking the pace, However Mitcham were making a bigger effort to get into the game, they nearly managed to pull one back, a scuffle in the area ended with Julian Lorenzo having to clear the ball on the line.

This seemed to be a wakeup call for Depor as just a few minutes later Stephan killed the game by scoring DGL’s third and final goal.
Towards the end of the game Antón and Michel Chinito Payne had a chance each to add another goal to the scoreline, while the opposing side gradually deflated.

Speaking after the match, defender Martin Decabo praised his team mates, labelling this game as “one of the most comfortable games we’ve had this season, good football being played by everyone”. Decabo also said that he was “overly impressed with the new defensive line”. Overall he’s very happy with the result, “clean sheet and three points, even though the pitch conditions weren’t the best”.

Deportivo managed their first clean sheet since mid-December, they are still four points from leaders FC Assyria, however the gap between 2nd and 3rd has widened to 10 points.

DGL2 (4-2) Kensington Dragons Res FC

DGL2 contributed to making it another club weekend double with goals from Sam Samuel Molina Bond in a striker role!! Ivan Costa Suarez from the penalty spot and MOM Youssef with an impressive brace from midfield and receiving manager Abb Hamaida plaudits for his calm and effective style of play. “this young man just doesn’t look pressured when he get the ball. Plays it it quick and without fuss” commented Abby. Seems like we have another knocking on DGL1 door.

With their (DGL2) semi final approaching in the next 2 weeks the boys will be looking to keep confidence high and look to make that final for 2nd season in a row.

Big well done again to the Club. Consistency becoming a feature of our Club. 👊👍
